SkyBet appears to have suspended betting on the identity of the next Swansea City boss, with interim boss Alan Sheehan now odds-on favourite with bookmakers elsewhere.
The Irishman took the reins on a caretaker basis following the sacking of Luke Williams last Monday, and oversaw a thoroughly impressive 3-0 mauling of Blackburn Rovers in the first game of this latest temporary reign.
Sheehan suggested after the win, arguably one of Swansea's most complete attacking performances, he would be interested in the job. Asked if the win might potentially build his case for taking the job, he said: "You see, building a case, you'd understand that I'd want it. You would think that. "Let's see what happens. There's a lot of stuff happening at the football club, and if we concentrate on me, on any point, I don't really like that. Let's concentrate on giving our positive energy to the players and let all that other stuff take care of itself."
Sheehan was keen on taking the job when Michael Duff left the club last season, before the club ultimately opted for Williams, and it seems likely he will make his case to the board again.
The Swans aren't in action again until next Tuesday's trip to Preston North End, which could give the club's hierarchy more of a chance to turn full focus on to how best to proceed. Whether Sheehan is seen as a viable long-term option remains to be seen at this stage, but BetVictor have now placed Sheehan at 1/2 on to take over.
SkyBet, meanwhile, appear to have stopped taking bets.
There is certainly enough faith in Sheehan's abilities that the club feel they have time to ponder the next move, with new sporting director Richard Montague taking a lead role in the search.
Several potential external candidates have already been identified, but nothing appears to be imminent at this stage.
Eric Ramsay (6/1) and Des Buckingham (8/1) are among those to have been mentioned in recent weeks, although neither are believed to be serious contenders at this stage.
